From UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – “A series of Web-based seminars aimed at helping local businesses prosper from natural-gas drilling and development will be offered this fall by Penn State Extension’s Marcellus Educational Consortium.
“Your Business and Marcellus Shale: Moving Forward 2011″ is a five-part program intended to help local businesses understand and take advantage of the opportunities arising from development of the Marcellus Shale.
“Participants will expand their knowledge of the opportunities that exist in the market and learn how to make connections and plan for doing business in this growing industry,” said Jonathan Laughner, extension educator in Beaver County who is moderating the sessions, one of which will be held every other week. Each webinar will feature speakers who are experts in the field.
“Our webinar speakers will include natural-gas industry representatives, local business people successfully responding to opportunities, financial specialists and business-development representatives,” Laughner said. “Anyone interested in learning more about this aspect of the industry is welcome to attend.”

2011-2012 Professional Development Series: Clarion/Venango County and Mercer County
The 2011 – 2012 Professional Skills Development Series in Clarion/Venango Counties( 2011-2012 Prof Dev Clarion venango trifold) and Mercer County(2011-2012 Prof Dev Mercer trifold) is a 24-hour certificate program that gives the participant the opportunity to develop or enhance the professional skills needed to succeed in the workplace. Clarion/Venango County sessions alternate between the two counties and are held once a month on the second Wednesday of the month for a full year (12 sessions). Mercer County sessions are all held in Mercer, Mercer County on the third Wednesday of the month for a full year (12 sessions). Attendance at seven sessions is required to receive the certificate. College Education Units (CEU)’s are available through Clarion University’s Division of Continuing Education at the rate of one CEU for every 10 hours of instruction time.
The 2011-2012 Clarion/Venango County Professional Skills Development Series will be held on the Second Wednesday of each month September 14, 2011– August 13, 2012,, 9:00 to 11:00 AM. Venango County sessions will be held in Frame Hall, Venango Campus of Clarion University. Clarion sessions will be held at SMI (Structural Modules, Inc.) at 101 Southern Ave., Strattanville, PA 16258
The 2011-2012 Mercer County Professional Skills Development Series is made up of 12, two-hour monthly sessions. Courses meet on the third Wednesday of the month,
9-11 a.m. from October 19, 2011– September 21, 2012. Sessions will be held at the Keystone Community Education Council’s office at 113 N. Diamond St., Mercer, PA 16137.
Cost:
For $500 – 2 people can attend each of the 12 sessions or 24 admissions to the sessions of your choice. ($21/per person/session)
For $300 – 1 person can attend the entire series or 12 admissions to the sessions of your choice. ($25/per person/session)
For $30 – 1 person can attend the session of their choice.
